(a) The Committee on Infrastructure, set up by the Government, has considered a
presentation made by the Planning Commission involving programmes with a total investment of
Rs. 1,72,000 crore for upgradation of National Highways in next seven years (2005-2012). Six-
laning of around 5000 kms under National Highways Development Project (NHDP) Phase V,
identification and construction of around 1000 km Expressways under NHDP Phase VI and
construction of Bypasses, Flyovers, Road Over Bridges etc at required locations under NHDP
Phase VII are included in the proposal.
(b) It is too early to give the details for NHDP Phase V to VII.
(c) and (d) The status of the projects as on 30.06.2005 is given at Annexure-I.
(e) It is the estimated that actual expenditure on the projects will not differ much from the
estimated cost allowing for escalation.
(f) and (g) Taking up the task of new highways and expressways would go parallel to the
work on the existing highways and expressways.
