Question : ENVIRONMENTAL CLEARANCE TO DAMS



(a) whether the Union Government has received any proposals/request from the Government Maharashtra seeking environment clearance for construction of dams in the State;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the current status of the proposals; and

(d) the time by which the proposals are likely to be finalized including the reasons for delay in this regard?

(a)to(c)The sole project, namely Lendi major irrigation project on river Lendi at village Goregaon in the district of Nanded, involving construction of a dam was received from the Government of Maharashtra for seeking environmental clearance. The proposal was considered by the Expert Appraisal Committee on 20.9.2007 & 18.2.2010 and information and clarifications sought by the Committee have not been furnished by the proponent till date.

(d) The Environment Impact Assessment Notification, 2006 provides that the decision on the proposal is to be taken within 105 days from the receipt of the complete information.
