Question : Stressful Condition of Air India Pilots

(a) whether some pilots of Air India and other crews are reportedly highly stressed and financially burdened because of a unilateral change in the employment conditions and if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;

(b) whether the Government has received any representation from the Indian Commercial Pilots’ Association in this regard and if so, the details thereof along with the corrective measures taken/proposed to betaken by the Government in this regard;and

(c) whether some co-pilots who were hired by Air India on a permanent basis were made contract workers and if so, the details thereof along with the reasons therefor?

(a) & (b): Indian Commercial Pilot Association (ICPA) had given a representation dated 18th June, 2019 to management of Air India in which they have objected to the change in the existing practice of payment with regards to pay and allowances and discussions were held between Management of Air India and ICPA. Such issues are generally addressed by Air India for arriving at an amicable solution.

(c): No pilot hired by Air India on a permanent basis has been converted into fixed term contract basis.
