Question : COMMITTEE ON SUGARCANE PRICING



(a) whether the Union Government had appointed Nanda kumar Committee on linkage of sugarcane price to price of sugar and by-products and also realisation and recovery from sugarcane;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the recommendations made therein have been accepted by the Government;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons for not accepting the recommendations of the Committee and its present status?

(a) to (e): Yes, Madam. The Government had constituted a Committee under the Chairmanship of Sh. T. Nandakumar to determine the percentage of realization of sugar factories from sugar and other by-products, which should go to the cane farmers. Later, a group was constituted under the chairmanship of Dr.C.Rangarajan, Chairman, Economic Advisory Council to Prime Minister, to determine an acceptable price sharing formula for sugarcane that can make the decontrol package more acceptable to the farmers in particular and other stakeholders, in case such a decision is taken.
