Question : Fratricide in Armed Forces

(a) whether the cases of fratricide in Army and other armed forces have increased in the recent years;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor; and
(c) the steps taken by the Government to prevent such incidents in the future?

IN THE MINISTRY OF DEFENCE

(a) to (c): No cases of fratricide have been reported in the Navy and Air Force in recent years. The number of cases of fratricide in the Indian Army since 2019 till date are as under:

The Government has taken several steps towards stress amelioration amongst troops, which, inter-alia, include deployment of trained psychological counsellors, improvement in the quality of food and clothing, training in stress management, provision of recreational facilities, buddy system, leave concessions, approachability of seniors, facilities for movement of troops from border areas and establishing a grievance redressal mechanism at various levels, etc.
