Question : NH-Projects in West Bengal

(a) the details of the national projects undertaken in West Bengal during each of the last three years along with their current status;

(b) whether any financial assistance has been granted to State Road Transport Undertaking (SRTU) of West Bengal to strengthen Public Transport System;

(c) if so, the details thereof; and

(d) the steps being taken to complete the projects within stipulated time?

(a) During 2014 -15, Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has sanctioned a model Inspection and Certification ( I & C) Centre with project cost of Rs. 14.40 Crore to be set up Behala, Kolkatta, West Bengal.

(b) No, Madam.

(c) Doesn’t arise in view of part (b) above.

(d) Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT) has been engaged as consultant to provide technical support to the State Government in setting up of I & C Centre. Milestones have been fixed to release of funds. Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has also been signed amongst Transport Department, Government of West Bengal, CIRT and MoRTH wherein roles and responsibilities of each agency have been defined. The progress of the work is also reviewed in the meetings from time to time.
