Question : Promotion of Ayurveda

Will the Minister of AYURVEDA, YOGA AND NATUROPATHY, UNANI, SIDDHA AND HOMOEOPATHY (AYUSH) be pleased to state:

(a) the steps taken by the Government to promote ayurveda, yoga and naturopathy in the country;

(b) the details of concrete policy formulated for creating awareness among the people about yoga and naturopathy and making these systems employment oriented; and

(c) the number of persons who have been given employment in these sectors, State-wise including Uttar Pradesh?

(a) & (b): The Ministry has been implementing Central Sector Scheme for Promotion of Information Education and Communication (IEC) in AYUSH to create awareness regarding AYUSH Systems of Medicine including Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy by organizing National/State Arogya Fairs, Ayurveda Parvs, Yoga Fests, Seminars, Workshops and Conferences etc. The Ministry is also undertaking IEC Campaigns on multiple media including Print media etc. for creating awareness by formulating and executing strategies relating to AYUSH System of Medicine including Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy
The Ministry is also observing Ayurveda Day, International Day of Yoga and Naturopathy Day to aware the public about the importance of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy Systems of Medicine respectively.
The Ministry has set up a Yoga Certification Board (YCB) under the aegis of Morarji Desai National Institute of Yoga with functional autonomy. The aim of YCB is promotion of Yoga as career skill. YCB undertakes assessment of Yoga professionals for certification of their skill. YCB also undertakes accreditation of Yoga Institutions/Centers at different levels for promoting Yoga in an organized manner.

National Institute of Naturopathy (NIN) under the Ministry is promoting Naturopathy and Yoga through short term skill development programs, fellowship programs and through certificate course. The certificate and fellowship programs offered at NIN are primarily devised to increase their scope of getting employed.
(c): As the health is State subject, therefore, such data is not maintained by the Ministry of AYUSH.
