(d) whether the Government has studied the reasons for shutting down of colleges and if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the action taken by the Government in this regard?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (SMT. SMRITI ZUBIN IRANI)

(a) & (b): No, Madam. No such information that the management programmes are losing their sheen due to scarcity of students across the country has come to the notice of the Government. However, it has been observed that there is less demand of institutes located in rural areas for admission.

(c): The details of state-wise institutes running Management Programmes closed during 2014-15 is at Annexure.

(d) & (e): The main reasons for closure of the institutes are that there is less demand of institutes located in rural and backward areas for admission as they lack in good faculty, good infrastructure, social contacts, industry-institute- interface, campus placements, employment opportuni- ties etc. Due to less admissions in such institutes, running them is unviable and hence the closures.
