(a) to (c) As per Unified District Information System for Education (UDISE) 2013-14, 1.62 lakh toilets were dysfunctional in government schools. Under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) programme annual maintenance grant @Rs. 5000 per school per year for schools with three class- rooms and Rs. 10000 per school per year with schools more than three classrooms, for the maintenance and minor repair of exiting school infrastructure inclu- ding toilets, is provided. In addition to this school grant is also provided @ Rs. 5000 per primary school per year and @ Rs. 7000 per upper primary school per year. Similarly, under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) programme school grant at the @ 50,000 is provided in secondary schools.
(d) & (e) In pursuance to the national call to provide functional toilets for girls and boys in the schools, the PSUs/ Private corporate have committed re-constru- ction of 69083 toilets. Rs. 56.51crore has been allo- cated from the Swachh Bharat Kosh for re-construction/ repairs of 5245 dysfunctional toilets till 28.02.2015. This Department has emphasized with States to create awareness about cleanliness and hygiene in the schools. A handbook on Swachh Bharat: Swachh Vidyalaya was brou- ght out and widely disseminated to generate awareness on sanitation and hygiene in schools.
