Question : Girls Hostels

(a) the details of Kasturba Gandhi Vidyalayas and Girls Hostels functioning in the country, State-wise particularly in Maharashtra;

(b) the number of students enrolled in these schools, State-wise especially in Maharashtra;

(c) the details of budget allocated, sanctioned and utilised for these schools during the last three years, State-wise

(d) whether the Government is considering to increase the budget allocation for this purpose and if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the details of dropout percentages of students from these schools?

(a) & (b): Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education is implementing Samagra Shiksha - an Integrated Scheme for School Education (ISSE), effective from 2018-19. Under Samagra Shiksha, provision has been made to upgrade/converge the existing Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Girls’ Hostel of Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA), as feasible, up to Senior Secondary Level. State-wise list of KGBVs functioning in the country including the State of Maharashtra with the enrolment of girls is at Annexure-A.

(c) & (d): Funds for KGBVs are released to States and Union Territories as a part of Samagra Shiksha. The financial norm for KGBVs are reviewed time to time as per requirement. State-wise list showing the details of estimate allocated and fund utilised for KGBVs during the last three years is at Annexure-B.

(e): The details regarding drop-out of students from KGBVs are not maintained in this Department. However, the drop-out data as received from the States is at Annexure-C.
