(a) The Department of Posts does not have any postal distribution zone in the country. Delivery of mail is done through delivery post offices. The total number of delivery post offices in the country state-wise, including Maharashtra is at Annexure [column (a)].
(b) The information on number of colonies under each delivery post office is not maintained in the Department.
(c) The information on number of postmen in each delivery post office, state-wise is at Annexure [column (b)].
(d) No, Madam. The number of postmen in each delivery post office is subject to the increase/decrease in the workload, which is assessed as per the departmental norms and not on the basis of population. Further, the delivery jurisdiction of post offices is reviewed from time to time and re-distribution of areas or establishment of new delivery post offices is done. Redeployment of postmen or creation of new posts of postmen, when justified is also done.
With the increasing number of parcels, largely driven by e-commerce, the department is now setting up nodal, mechanised delivery centres for delivering of parcels in major cities of the country. The delivery jurisdiction of multiple post offices is subsumed under the nodal delivery system and parcels are delivered through vehicles to cover the increased area.
(e) The details of the postmen posted during the last three years and the current year (state-wise) is at Annexure [column (b)].
