MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT (SMT. D. PURANDESWARI)

(a) to (c) : Admissions in undergraduate courses in Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) are decided and conducted by the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The increase in seats depends on whether new courses are offered by the Institute and is decided by the JAB. During 2010, the total number of seats available in IITs across all categories was 9509. The number of seats likely to be available in 2011-12 will depend upon whether any of the IITs are offering new courses.
