Question : COPPER - T



(a) the details of Copper-T supplied to various States during each of the last three years;

(b) whether any irregularities from any State have been noticed by the Government in the supply of Copper-T;

(c) if so, the details thereof alongwith action taken by the Government thereon;

(d) whether the Government are also aware that several cases of infection have been reported from various States due to use of Copper-T;

(e) if so, the reasons therefor; and

(f) the remedial measures taken/proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) A statement showing state-wise details of Copper-T supplied during last three years i.e. 1998-99,1999-2000 and 2000-01 is Annexued.

(b) No, Sir.

(c) Does not arise.

(d) No such reports have been received from States.

(e) Does not arise.

(f) In order to ensure quality standards in the supply of Copper-T, each and every batch of the quantity ordered on all the manufacturers is tested in Government approved laboratories, before despatch to the states. Besides, the Regional Directors of this Ministry, posted in the states lift samples on random basis from the field and get them tested once again in Government approved laboratory so as to ensure quality of the Copper-T sent for use in the states. In case of any failure in the field test, the use of that batch of Copper-T sent for use in the states. In case of any failure in the field test, the use of that batch of Copper-T is immediately discontinued, and the same is replaced by the manufacturer free of cost.
