(a) Whether the Government had imposed ban on mobile service in Jammu & Kashmir;
(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor;
(c) whether the Government has recently decided to lift the ban imposed on mobile
service in the said State; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor?

(a) to (d): Yes, Madam. Considering the misuse of pre-paid mobile services, by
anti-social/anti-national elements, a Ban was imposed on pre-paid mobile services in
J&K with effect from February 01, 2004 and services were re-introduced with effect from
November 23, 2004. Subsequently, a ban on pre-paid mobile services was again imposed with
effect from November 01, 2009 which was lifted with effect from January 20, 2010.
