Question : Trafficking of Children

(a) whether the incidents of illegal trafficking of children have increased manifold in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has any proposal for setting up of anti human trafficking units in all districts of the country including the districts of Maharashtra and Rajasthan;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. *124 FOR 11.2.2020 REGARDING “TRAFFICKING OF CHILDREN”

(a) & (b): No, Sir. National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) collects data on human trafficking from States and Union Territories (UTs) and publishes it in its annual publication ‘Crime in India’. The last published report is available for the year 2018. As per published report of NCRB, 2465 cases of human trafficking were reported in 2018 as against 2854 cases in 2017.

(c) to (e): The Government has approved a proposal for financial assistance to States and UTs for setting up/strengthening of Anti Human Trafficking Units (AHTUs) by the States and UTs in all their Districts at a total cost of Rs.100 crore under Nirbhaya Fund, which includes all districts of Maharashtra and Rajasthan. AHTUs are intended to serve as integrated task force in each district to coordinate efforts of various State authorities as well as central authorities to check crime against women and children.
