Answer given by the minister

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND
FAMILY WELFARE
(SHRI ASHWINI KUMAR CHOUBEY)

(a) to (c): Public Health and hospitals being a State subject, the primary responsibility for the implementation of various health schemes in the country including engagement of Non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and monitoring of activities undertaken by them vests with the State Governments. However, under the National Health Mission (NHM), technical and financial support is provided to States/UTs for strengthening their Health Care Systems based on the requirements projected by the States/UTs in their Programme Implementation Plan (PIPs) within their overall resource envelope. The data on number of NGOs working in the States/UTs is not maintained centrally.
