Question : Establishment of NSA

(a) whether the Government is proposing to establish National Sports Academy to inculcate and promote the sports talents of the youth of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) whether any branches of the academy have been established in the State of Telangana, if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) The Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports is implementing a Scheme called “Khelo India – National Programme for Development of Sports” which, inter-alia, includes a vertical of „Support to National/ Regional/State Sports Academies? under which grants-in-aid will be provided for establishment, operation and maintenance of sports academies in respect of identified disciplines to various entities for facilitating and supplementing Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) programme (for 8 years).

In addition, the Sports Authority of India (SAI), an autonomous organization under the aegis of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, is implementing the National Sports Academy (NSA) Scheme under which sporting talents are scouted from all over India through organized sports events/selection trials and nurtured in SAI National Sports Academies. Similarly SAI Regional Academies take care of the young talent at Regional level. At present ten (10) SAI National Sports Academies and five (5) Regional Sports Academies are operational. Details are given in Annexure – I.

(c) Yes, Madam. At present SAI-Gopichand National Badminton Academy at Gachibowli, Hyderabad is operational in the State of Telangana.
