Question : CONSTRUCTION OF AIRPORTS AT THE TOURIST SPOTS



(a) whether the Government is contemplating to construct/develop airports at famous tourist spots in the country particularly in Agra;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the steps taken/ proposed to be taken by the Government in this regard?

(a) Yes, Sir.

(b) & (c) Under the project of modernisation of 35 non metro airports, the airports at tourist spots like Agra, Agatti, Aurangabad, Goa, Jammu, Khajuraho, Madurai,Trivandrum, Udaipur and Varanasi have been taken up for development/ modernisation. In addition, there are plans for development of Kullu, Mysore & Srinagar airports, too.At Agra, Airports Authority of India (AAI) has already completed major development and upgradation works like expansion and modification of the terminal building with air conditioning system to cater to 500 passengers at a time with all modern amenities including customs and immigration arrangements to handle limited international chartered flights; expansion and strengthening of apron, construction of a new link taxiway alongwith other associated infrastructure.
