Question : SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE



(a) whether sports in the country has not developed commensurate with the infrastructure/facilities provided;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;

(c) whether the Government proposes to set up new sports complexes/sports stadia and other sports facilities in the country in various districts, including En Tamil Nadu for promoting sports; and

(d) if so, the details of the funds provided for the purpose during each of the last three years and the current year, State-wise?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (d) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO.235 TO BE ANSWERED ON 28.08.2012 REGARDING SPORTS INFRASTRUCTURE ASKED BY SHRIMATI J. HELEN DAVIDSON AND DR. SANJAY SINH.

(a) & (b): Madam, Availability of sports infrastructure/facilities is an important element in training etc. Sports in the country has been developing over the years. Improvement In sports infrastructure/facilities is one of the reasons for this.

(c)& (d): The Government of India is providing financial assistance to the States/UT`s under the Urban Sports Infrastructure Scheme (USIS) which was Introduced in 2010-11 on pilot basis for creation of Sports Infrastructure. Under the scheme, funds are provided to the States for specific sports facilities like construction of a multipurpose Indoor Hall and laying of synthetic turf for Hockey/Athletlc/Football. The projects sanctioned and funds allocated under the scheme State-wise/Year-wise are given at Annexure I. The Government of India is also providing funds to the State/UTs under Panchayat Yuva Krida Aur Khel Abhiyan (PYKKA) which was introduced in 2008-09 for development of playfields in the States/UT`s. The state-wise details of proposals complete in all respects received, approved and amount released for development of playfields under PYKKA scheme during last three years and current year upto 31.07.2012 are at Annexure-II. Sports Infrastructure has also been created in Sports Authority of India Regional Centres/Sub-Centres and SAI Sport Centres in different parts of the country are including Tamil Nadu.
