(a) whether the Railways have proposed to introduce state-of-the-art locomotives based on IGBT technology in near future;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the agreement made with foreign countries in this regard;
(c) whether the Railways propose to promote “Make in India” campaign through the said agreement; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the time by which these agreements are likely to be implemented ?

(a) No, Madam. In fact, Diesel Locomotive Works (DLW) is already manufacturing locomotives equipped with Insulated Gate Bi-polar Transistor (IGBT) based propulsion system since 2007-2008. IGBT based technology is also working on electric locos, produced by Chittaranjan Locomotive Works (CLW).
(b) Does not arise.
(c) As already mentioned under para (a) above, DLW & CLW are already manufacturing locomotives having IGBT based propulsion system and these systems have been developed indigenously.
(d) Does not arise.
