Question : Near Miss Flight Incidents

(a) whether the incidents of ‘near misses’ of flights at various airports in the country have increased during the year 2016;

(b) if so, whether the initiatives taken by the Government to boost aviation sector has weakened the air safety standards;

(c) if so, the facts thereof;

(d) whether the Union Government has conducted probe of ‘near misses‘ of flights; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and the corrective measures Union Government has taken or proposes to take in this regard?

(a) The pattern of such incidents is varying over the years.;

(b) & (c) No Madam.;

(d) & (e) All such incidents are investigated by Airprox Investigation Board constituted by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), and are reviewed at DGCA, HQ for their completeness and process for implementation of recommendations of the Board. The incidents which are serious in nature are investigated by a Committee of Inquiry (CoI) constituted by the Government and are reviewed by Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and accepted by the Government for implementation of recommendations. The safety measure taken by DGCA are given in Annexure-A.
