Question : INVESTMENT BY ASEAN COUNTRIES



(a) whether the Government has invitedASEAN countries to invest in India duringthe ASEAN summit;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details of the ASEAN countrieswhich have expressed their desire for morebusiness with India and the areas identifiedfor investments;

(d) whether agreements have beensigned with the ASEAN countries in respectof the investment or trade between India and ASEAN countries during the summit;

(e) if so, the details thereof; and

(f) the extent to which it will bebeneficial for the country?

THE MINISTER OF STATE (INDEPENDENT CHARGE) OF THE MINISTRY OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY (SHRIMATI NIRMALA SITHARAMAN)

(a) & (b): Yes, Madam. Prime Minister in his statement at the 12th ASEAN –India Summit in Nay Pyi Taw, Myanmar on 12 November, 2014 spoke about Government of India’s renewed emphasis, inter-alia, on infrastructure, manufacturing, trade, agriculture, skill development, urban renewal and smart cities. He also spoke about the ‘Make in India’ campaign and invited ASEAN Member States to invest in India.

(c): All the ASEAN Member States spoke about enhancement of trade and investment relations with India.

(d): No, Madam. No Agreement was signed with the ASEAN countries in respect of the investment or trade between India and ASEAN countries during the Summit.

(e) & (f): Do not arise.
