Question : Distance Prescribed between Toll Plazas

(a) the distance prescribed between one Toll Gate/Plaza to another Toll Gate/Plaza as per the Government rules;

(b) whether this rule is applicable for EPC projects only or BOT projects also and if so, the details thereof;

(c) the details of Toll Gates/Plazas located on the stretch between Venkatachalam and Sullrupeta (NH-5) in Andhra Pradesh;

(d) whether all the Toll Gates/Plazas in the said stretch are established as per prescribed rules; and

(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) &(b) As per Rule 8(2) of the National Highways Fee (Determination of Rates and Collection) Rules, 2008 – “Any other fee plaza on same section of national highway and in the same direction shall not be established within a distance of sixty kilometers:
Provided that where the executing authority deems necessary, it may for reasons to be recorded in writing, establish or allow the concessionaire to establish another fee plaza within a distance of sixty kilometers:
Provided further that a fee plaza may be established within a distance of sixty kilometres from another fee plaza if such fee plaza is for collection of fee for a permanent bridge, bypass or tunnel.” This rule is applicable for EPC & BOT projects taken up on or after 05.12.2008.

(c) to(e) Three (03) number of fee plazas i.e. Venkatachalam, Budhanam and Sullurpet on Tada-Nellore section are located in the stretch between Venkatachalem and Sullrupeta (NH-5) in Andhra Pradesh. These plazas are on BOT (Toll) Concession Agreement and fee plazas are located based on National Highways Fee Rules, 1997 and in accordance with Concession Agreement of project stretch.
