Question : Nutritious Food under PDS

(a) whether the Government proposes to distribute nutritious food to the beneficiaries under the Public Distribution System, if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether necessary preparations and arrangements have been made by the Government in this regard, if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether the Government has also consulted the Ministries concerned in this regard, if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the said Ministries thereto; and
(d) the time by which this scheme is likely to be introduced in the country?

(a)& (b) : The Government of India has been providing Rice, Wheat and Coarse grains at subsidized rates to the State Governments/Union Territory Administrations under the Targeted Public Distribution System (TPDS). There is no proposal to include additional items at present.
