Question : Decline in Production of Oilseeds

(a) whether the production of oilseeds is declining due to insect and pest infections in various parts of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) the efforts made by the Government to resolve the said problem with a view to improve the production of oilseeds; and

(d) the extent to which the success achieved as a result thereof?

(b): Does not arise.

(c) & (d): Improved varieties/hybrids of oilseed crops tolerant/resistant to major insect-pests and diseases have been widely propagated. Support are being provided to farmers for adoption of Integrated Pest Management (IPM) technologies and capacity building through Farmers Fields School (FFS) to control major diseases and pests. Monitoring of pests and diseases are being done and scientific pest management advisories are given to farmers through SMS. Pesticides are being supplied to farmers at subsidized rates. There have been no reports of large scale infestation of insect and pest in last 4-5 years.
