Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF HOME AFFAIRS AND MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF PERSONNEL, PUBLIC GRIEVANCES AND PENSIONS (SHRI HARIN PATHAK)

(a) & (b): During the period from 1st August, 2002 to 31st July, 2003, 11 cases of theft/burglary were reported from the South Avenue area as against 10 such cases during the corresponding period of the previous year;

(c) & (d): Out of these 11 cases, eight have been sent as untraced. The main reason because of which these cases could not be worked out was that a large number of persons frequently visit the area which made it difficult to identify the culprits;

(e): The steps taken to strengthen the security arrangement in the VVIP areas include intensification of patrolling and setting up of special pickets.
