Question : BUDGET DEFICIT



(a) whether the International Monetary Fund has suggested to take steps to reduce the Budget deficit and control the inflation;

(b) if so, the reaction of the Government in this regard;

(c) whether the Government are taking any immediate steps in this context;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor ?

(a),(b),(c),(d) and (e) : Government is fully conscious of the need to control Budget Deficit and inflation consistent with requirements of economic growth with macro- economic stability and equity. This is a concern that has been voiced at various fora , including I.M.F. Budget 2000-01 is intended to advance Government`s efforts in this regard.
