Question : Training in for Skill Development of Youth

(a) the details of infrastructure put in place by the Government to help skill up the youth; and


(b) the details of the steps taken by the Government to help States to create a better infrastructure to help youth gain meaningful training in skill development?

Answer given by the minister

(a) to (b) There are 13,105 Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) (Govt.- 2,293 and Private- 10,812) operational under the Directorate General of Training (DGT) for skilling in the Country. Following schemes are also being implemented to improve the skill development infrastructure across the Country:-

i. Upgradation of 1396 Government ITIs through Public Private Partnership;
ii. Upgradation of 400 Government ITIs- Externally Aided Project (EAP)- World Bank assisted Vocational Training Improvement Project (VTIP); and
iii. Upgradation of Government ITIs into Model ITIs.

Besides, the Government has set up the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) as a Public Private Partnership entity to promote private training providers to set up skill development centres across the Country. As on 31st October, 2015, there are 266 affiliated training partners of NSDC operating 4648 training centers, inclusive of 812 mobile centers across 27 States and 5 Union Territories in 525 districts of the Country.
