Question : DEPOSITS OF COAL



(a) whether the Government have made any assessment about the coal deposits in different areas of Jharkhand;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government propose to start the mining operation in the new coal field in Bhandaria of Godhwa districts in Jharkhand; and

(d) if so, the details thereof ?

(a)& (b): The total reserves under different category within Jharkhand state asassessed by Geological Survey of India as on 1-1-2000 is given below:-

(c) & (d): Regional exploration by GSI in and around Bhandaria District-Garhwa has indicated occurrence of this coal seams. The area is covered by thick and protected forest of Harta & Tihari and away from present mining infrastructure of CCL. Under the circumstances, at present Cil has no plan of opening a mine in this area.
