(a) whether the proposal of laying the railway works between Rishikesh and Karnaprayag has been sanctioned;
(b) if so, the amount of funds allocated by the Railways for this scheme; and
(c) the status of said scheme and the time by which it is likely to be completed ?

(a) & (b): Rishikesh-Karanprayag (125 km) New Line is a sanctioned project at an anticipated cost of 4295 Crores and an expenditure of 11.6 Crores has been incurred upto March 2014 with an outlay of 20 Crores in 2014-15. A provision of 150 Crores has been made in the Budget 2015-16.
(c) Final location survey and geotechnical investigation have been taken up. The project involves a very difficult terrain and unpredictable geological features due to which time frame for its completion has not been fixed.
