THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF POWER ( SHRIMATI JAYAWANTI MEHTA )

(a) & (b) : NTPC and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on 12.7.2002 for establishing a 1000 MW coal based power project at Ennore in Tamil Nadu as Joint Venture, subject to techno commercial feasibility and bankability of the project, etc. This is the only joint venture that has been conceived till now.

(c) to (e) : Thermal Power units are required to comply with the statutory control of pollution as prescribed by the Government from time to time. Coal, however, would continue to be the main fuel for power generation in India and for the Tenth Plan, out of the target of about 41,000 MW, about 18300 MW would be coal based.
