Question : MAINTENANCE AND UPKEEP OF HISTORICAL BUILDINGS



(a) whether the 12th Finance Commission has allocated funds for maintenance and upkeep of several ancient and historical buildings and monuments in the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof; and

(c) the amount of funds allocated for maintenance and upkeep of ancient temples, monuments and buildings of archaeological importance located in Himachal Pradesh?

(a) & (b) Twelfth Finance Commission has recommended allocation of Rs.625 Crores among various States for heritage conservation i.e. preservation and protection of historical monuments, archaeological sites, public libraries, museums and archives covering the period between 2005-06 and 2009-10.

The Archaeological Survey of India does not get any allocation from the Finance Commission.

(c) In the State of Himachal Pradesh Rs.75 Lac under Plan and Rs.75 Lac under Non-Plan have been allocated by the A.S.I. during the financial year 2005-2006 for the maintenance and upkeep of ancient monuments and sites.
