Question : INTEREST CLAIM OF SUGAR MILLS

(a) whether interest claims of some of the sugar mills are pending with the Government;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reasons therefor, State-wise; and

(c) the time by which the said claims are likely to be released?

Answer given by the minister

MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF AGRICULTURE AND MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF CONSUMER AFFAIRS, FOOD & PUBLIC DISTRIBUTION (PROF. K.V. THOMAS)

(a) to (c): The claims of interest subvention, under the ‘Scheme for Extending Financi Assistance to Sugar Undertakings, 2007 (SEFASU, 2007)’ notified on 07.12.2007, are required to be lodged with the Central Government by the nodal banks/NABARD so appointed under the provisions of the scheme and not by the sugar mills. As on 31.03.2010, Rs.502 crore have been released to nodal banks/NABARD out of total provisional claim amount of Rs.802 crore on this account. As such, the question of the claims of some mills pending with the Government does not arise.
