STATEMENT REFERRED IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) and (b) OF STARRED QUESTION NO. 287 BY SHRI ARJUN MUNDA TO BE ANSWERED IN LOK SABHA ON 23.07.2009 REGARDING RAILWAY PROJECTS.

(a) and (b): Railways have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with some State Governments for development of Rail infrastructure. A MOU was signed in February, 2002 between Ministry of Railways and State Government of Jharkhand for cost sharing of six Railway projects. These projects are at various stages of progress.

However, during last three years, only one MOU for Railway projects was signed for construction of Dallirajhara-Jagdalpur (235 km.) new line in Chattisgarh at a cost of Rs.968.86 crore. The MOU was signed on 11.12.2007 amongst Ministry of Railways, State Government of Chhattisgarh, Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) and Natinal Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC). Work of first phase from Dallirajahara to Rowghat have been entrusted to Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd. (RVNL).
