Question : NATIONAL MENTAL HEALTH PROGRAMME



(a) whether the Union Government provides financial assistance to the States under the National Mental Health Programme (NMHP);

(b) if so, the details thereof during the last three years and the current year, State/ UT-wise;

(c) whether the Government has received any proposals from various States including Madhya Pradesh for the upgradation of psychiatry wings in the Hospitals/Medical Colleges;

(d) if so, the details thereof; and

(e) the time by which these proposals are likely to be approved by the Government?

(a) & (b) Yes. Financial assistance under National Mental Health Programme (NMHP) are provided for upgradation of Medical Colleges, modernization of Government Mental Hospitals, District Mental Health Programme(DMHP), Research & Training Programmes and Manpower Development Schemes of NMHP. The details of assistance provided under each of these components during the last three years and the current year, State/UT-wise are annexed at Annexures-I,II,III,IV & V respectively.

(c) & (d) The list of proposals received from various States for upgradation of psychiatry wings in Government General Hospitals /Medical Colleges and their status is annexed (Annexure-VI).

(e) The approval of proposals is dependent on fulfilment of mandatory requirements under the programme.
