Question : DISFUNCTIONAL OF AYURVEDA RESEARCH INSTITUTES



(a) whether most of the Ayurvedic Research Institutes in the country have almost become disfunctional;

(b) if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government have collected samples for testing the Ayurvedic medicines manufactured by the reputed pharmaceutical companies;

(d) if so, the report received after this sampling; and

(e) if not, the reasons therefor?

(a)&(b): The Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha are functioning through its 36 units. The level of performance is not uniform at places. The corrective actions are being taken from time to time. A broad based Scientific Advisory Committee of experts has been set up to oversee the functioning of the units.

(c)to(e): Collection of samples of medicines for testing is responsibility of the concerned State Drug Licensing authorities. The Government has assisted State Drugs Testing Laboratories to expand testing facilities. The States have been specially advised to collect survey and statutory samples and have them tested for quality to take action where warranted.
