THE MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT (SHRIMATI KRISHNA TIRATH)

(a) Reports about the advertisements depicting women indecently have come to the notice of the Government. However as per National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, a total of 2917, 1562 and 1200 cases were reported under Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986 in the Country during 2005, 2006 and 2007 respectively thereby showing a declining trend.

(b) & (c) With a view to making punishment more stringent and to widen the scope of the Act to take into account the more advanced media related technologies that have become available, it was proposed by the NCW to amend the definition of advertisement, indecent representation of women and also enhance the penalty on conviction.
