MINISTER OF STATE OF THE MINISTRY OF WOMEN AND CHILD DEVELOPMENT (SHRIMATI KRISHNA TIRATH)

(a) to (d): The Government has set up the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) in March, 2007 under the Commissions for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005. The Commission has the mandate to ensure all laws, policies, programmes, and administrative mechanisms are in consonance with the child rights perspective as enshrined in the Constitution of India and the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

The Commission examines and reviews the safeguards provided by or under any law for the protection of child rights and recommends measures for their effective implementation. The recommendations made by the Commission are shared with concerned Ministries for further action. The Commission since its inception has undertaken review of laws such as the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986 and the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2000.
