Question : Facilities for Cotton Farmers

(a) whether the Government is considering to establish additional facilities like delinting and cotton seed oil extraction for better returns to the cotton farmers which will help in expansion of cotton farming and production and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether the Government will involve cotton growing farmers to participate in establishing additional facilities for better prospects; and

(c) if so, the time by which the Government proposes to come out with some concrete plan in this regard?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) TO (c) OF LOK SABHA STARRED QUESTION NO. 326 DUE FOR REPLY ON 16TH JULY, 2019.

(a) to (c): Department of Agriculture, Cooperation & Farmers Welfare (DAC&FW) is implementing Cotton development programme under National Food Security Mission (NFSM) in 15 major cotton growing states viz., Assam, Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Haryana, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Orissa, Punjab, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh & West Bengal from 2014-15 with the aim to increase production and productivity. The assistance is being provided to the farmers on various types of demonstrations, trials on high density planting system, distribution of plant protection chemicals & bioagents, national & state level trainings. State has been given flexibility to implement any component as per their local needs in local initiatives.
In addition to NFSM, the States can support cotton development programme under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (RKVY).
