Question : WAGES UNDER MGNREGS

(a) the latest minimum wagesprescribed for the workers under theMahatma GandhiNational Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme(MGNREGS), State/UT-wise;

(b) whether the Government proposesto revise wage rates under MGNREGS;

(c) if so, the details thereof includingthe suggestions received from variousindividuals, organizations and States in thisregard including the action taken by theGovernment thereon;

(d) whether the committee constitutedunder the Chairmanship of ProfessorS. MahendraDev for creating a frame workfor revision of wages under MGNREGShas submitted the report; and

(e) if so, the details thereof and if not,the time by which the report is likely to besubmitted by the committee in the matter?

(a) to (e): A statement is laid on the table of the House.

Statement as referred to in reply to parts (a) to (e) of LokSabha Starred Question No. 327 due for answer on 13.02.2014.

(a) to (c): In exercise of the powers conferred by Sub-section (1) of Section 6 of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), 2005, the Central Government specifies the wage rates payable to unskilled rural workers in respect of all States/UTs. The wage rates under MGNREGA are revised annually by indexing the State/UT-specific unskilled wages with the Consumer Price Index for Agricultural Labour (CPI-AL).

The latest such State/UT-wise revision which came into force with effect from 01.04.2013 is given at Annexure.

(d)& (e): No,Madam. The Committee constituted under the chairmanship of Prof. S. MahendraDev is yet to submit its report. The Committee has been requested to submit its report within three months from the date of its constitution i.e. 15.10.2013.
