Question : EMPLOYMENT OF SURRENDERED MILITANTS



(a) whether there is any proposal to set up two new battalions of Central Security Forces for the surrendered militants in the North Eastern Region of the country;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the time by which it is likely to be done, State-wise;

(c) whether such schemes are also likely to be implemented in the naxal affected region of the country to encourage the naxalites to surrender; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) & (b) : Yes, Madam. A proposal is under consideration in this Ministry in consultation with other Ministries concerned to set up two new Auxiliary Battalions; one each in Border Security Force (BSF) and Sashatra Seema Bal (SSB) for inducting the surrendered militants in North Eastern Region, particularly from Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur & Nagaland initially on contractual basis for a term of 5 years. No definite time frame can be given at this point by which the Auxiliary Battalions will be raised.

(c) & (d) : No, Madam. There is no proposal to induct surrendered naxalites in the CAPFs.
