(a) whether the Railways proposes to install solar power panels in the country;
(b) if so, the details thereof;
(c) whether Railways wants to be the largest producer of solar power in the country; and
(d) if so, the details thereof and the steps taken in this regard?

(a) to (d) In order to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, Indian Railways proposes to harness 1000 Mega Watt (MW) solar power in the next few years by putting up solar plants on Railway buildings/stations etc. across the country.
Solar power plants of total about 13 MW have been installed till date and work is in progress for 4 MW solar plants. In addition, tenders for providing solar power plants of about 50 MW on rooftop of Railway buildings/stations etc., have been invited by Zonal Railways.
