Question : Chabahar Port

(a) whether the Government proposes to operate Chabahar
Port in Iran and another port in Bangladesh for
transportation of goods and other purposes;
(b) if so, the details thereof along with the time by
which these ports are likely to be operated by the
Government;
(c) whether the Government proposes to use these two
ports for defence related matters also; and
(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a)&(b):Yes, Madam. India Ports Global Ltd. has signed a Contract with Aria Banader of Iran to equip
and operate two terminals at Chabahar - Shahid -Beheshti Port in Iran for transportation of
goods and other purposes. There is no decision to operate any Port in Bangladesh.


As per Article 6 of the Contract, effort are to be made to commence commercial operations at
Chabahar –Shahid- Beheshti Port in Iran within 18 months from the Contract activation date or
4 months from the date on which the Lessor hands over the Terminals and the Infrastructure
Facilities to the Lessee in accordance with the terms of the Contract.
