Question : FOODGRAIN DISTRIBUTION IN KARNATAKA



(a) whether the State Government of Karnataka had requested the Union Government for the release of total requirements of foodgrains for the State`s Public Distribution System from the Central Pool keeping in view the drought situation prevailing in the State;

(b) if so, the details regarding the demand of the State; and

(c) the necessary steps taken by the Union Government in this regard?

(a)&(b): The State Government of Karnataka had indicated the requirement of 8.00 lakh tonnes of foodgrains.

(c): A quantity of 2.00 lakh tonnes of rice has been allocated free of cost, under Special Component of Samporna Gramin Rozgar Yojana (SGRY) for creation of additional wage employment in the drought affected districts of the State.
