Question : Pollution in Misrikh

(a) Whether the Kanpur ranks at 109 position among the most polluted cities globally, if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether the factores located at Malegram in district Kanpur (Urban) in Misrikh parliamentary constituency are responsible for air pollution due to which locals are suffering from various health diseases and respiratory allergies along with damage to crops by polluted water;
(c) if so, whether any complaint in this regard have been received from the concerned public representatives;
(d) whether the Government has taken/proposes to take any measures to make Misrikh Parliamentary Constituency pollution free; and
(e) if so, the details thereof?

(a) and (b)There is no established mechanism for ranking the cities in terms of pollution. It also requires authentic data and proper peer review. The government is aware that several private institutions and universities are ranking cities adopting different methodologies, different data set and using different weightages to parameters. The data used for ranking is extracted primarily from satellite imageries, which are not validated either by peer reviewing or by proper ground truthing.

CPCB has identified 122 non-attainment cities, based on air quality levels exceeding National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) from 2014-2018(as per criteria) wherein, Kanpur city is identified as one of the 15 non-attainment cities of Uttar Pradesh and also identified as Critically Polluted Area based on monitoring conducted by Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board/ third party engaged by CPCB.

(c) to (e) No complaint of public representative is received with respect to pollution due to industries in Malegram, District Kanpur (rural) in Misrikh Parliament Constituency.
