Question : Asian Development Bank Survey on Cities

Will the Minister of URBAN DEVELOPMENT be pleased to state:
(a) whether the Asian Development Bank has published any report in regard to sanitation, drinking water and infrastructure facilities in Indian cities;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(c) the corrective action taken or proposed to be taken by the Government to remove the deficiencies?

(a) : Yes, Madam. The latest reports of Asian Development Bank on the subject of water supply and sanitation are the following :

i. Asian Sanitation Data Book 2008 – Achieving Sanitation for All

ii. 2007 Benchmarking and Data Book of Water Utilities in India

(b) & (c): To address the challenges related to water supply and sanitation sectors in urban areas, Government of India has launched Swachh Bharat Mission and the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT).
10% of the Mission outlay under AMRUT is earmarked for incentivizing the reforms in urban governance including those in water supply and sanitation sectors.
