Question : Review of NABARD

(a) the objective of the National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD);

(b) whether the Government has reviewed NABARD to assess if it is on the path to achieve its objective or not;

(c) if so, the details thereof and the time by which the review was conducted;

(d) if not, the reaction of the Government thereto; and

(e) the corrective steps taken by the Government in this regard?

(a): The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development Act was enacted in the year 1981 for the establishment of a development bank to be known as National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (the National Bank) for providing and regulating credit and other facilities for the promotion and development of agriculture, small-scale industries, cottage and village industries handicrafts and other rural crafts and other allied economic activities in rural areas for promoting integrated rural development and securing prosperity of rural areas.

(b) to (e): Government reviews the NABARD periodically. Based on such reviews corrective steps are taken by the Government including amendments in the NABARD Act, 1981.
