STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) & (b) OF LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO.2272 FOR 9.3.2000.
The resolution of boundary question between India and China is outstanding. The two sides also have differences in the perception of the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in the border areas, including in the Ladakh region of J&K (Western Sector). Both sides carry out patrolling activity as per their respective perception of the LAC. Violations of the LAC are taken up through diplomatic channels and at Border Personnel Meetings / Flag Meetings.
2. India and China have been discussing the boundary question in the framework of the India-China Joint Working Group on the Boundary Question. Both sides have reiterated the objective of seeking a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable settlement of the boundary question through dialogue. Both sides have also reiterated their commitment to maintaining peace and tranquillity in the border areas. Such dialogue between the two countries is aimed at resolving all outstanding issues.
3. Government remain vigilant and take all necessary and appropriate measures to safeguard the sovereignty, territorial integrity and security of India.
