Question : VIOLENT CRIMES AGAINST WOMEN



(a) whether among 35 cities in the country, the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi leads in almost all categories of violent crimes against women as reported in 2009;

(b) if so, the details thereof and the reaction of the Government thereto;

(c) whether the situation has improved in the following years; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

(a) to (d): As per the input provided by National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) a total of 23,983 cases of crimes against women were reported from 35 cities identified as Mega Cities as per population census 2001. in year 2009 as compared to total cases of 24,756 in the year 2008. The details of the city wise and headwise crimes against women during 2009 are at Annexure. Delhi (3701 cases) has accounted for 15.4% of total crimes followed by Hyderabad (1896 cases, 7.9%).
