Question : MEDICAL FACILITIES AT RAILWAY STATIONS



(a) whether there is any proposal to provide medical facilities with doctors at various railway stations;

(b) if so, the names of the railway stations which have identified therefor, zone-wise; and

(c) the time by which the medical facilities are likely to be provided?

STATEMENT REFERRED TO IN REPLY TO PARTS (a) to (c) OF LOK SABHA UNSTARRED QUESTION NO. 5092 BY DR. ASHOK PATEL TO BE ANSWERED ON 21.12.2000 REGARDING MEDICAL FACILITIES AT RAILWAY STATIONS.


(a) to (c): A pilot project to provide exclusive chemist shops at nine railway stations, such as Chatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CSTM), Mumbai Central, Howrah, Sealdah, New Delhi, Gorakhpur, Guwahati, Chennai and Secunderabad is under consideration. Besides, the Station Masters of each Railway Station now maintains a list of all the Medical facilities available in the vicinity of the Railway Stations, including their addresses and telephone numbers. Moreover, 158 model ‘A’ stations have been earmarked for providing augmented first aid facilities. The licensees of these Chemist shops are expected to provide a qualified doctor in busy hours at their establishments. As this is a pilot project, no time-frame can be indicated at present.
